What is Mac Manhunt?

Mac Manhunt is McMaster's campus-wide game of hide and seek, played after dark. One horn. Two sides. Every shadow on campus is fair game, and two players take the night: the last runner caught and the hunter with the most tags.

How it works

One night. Four steps.

No experience needed. If you can walk, you can play. If you can hide, you might win.

  1. Step #1

Pick the Runner or Hunter sheet and grab your spot on the roster. Hunter spots are limited.

  2. Step #2

    Check in

Meet at the spot ten minutes early. Get the boundary, the rules and your armband.

  3. Step #3

    Scatter

Runners get a five-minute head start. Find a shadow. Stay in it.

  4. Step #4

    Survive

Every tag grows the pack. The last Runner caught wins, and so does the Hunter with the most tags.

Rules of engagement

Six rules. No exceptions.

They keep every hunt fair, fun and safe. Break one and you're out for the round.

  1. R/01

    Stay inside the boundary

The game area is outdoor campus grounds only. Leave the zone and you're out.

  2. R/02

    No buildings, no wheels

No hiding indoors or in cars, and no bikes, scooters or skateboards.

  3. R/03

    Any tag counts

A light touch anywhere is a tag. No tackling, grabbing or pushing.

  4. R/04

    Roads are out of bounds

Never cross a road mid-chase. Stop, look, and let the chase go.

  5. R/05

    Honour system, through HUNTR

Tagged? Log it in the HUNTR app right away. No hiding it and no arguing with the tag.

  6. R/06

    Respect campus and the neighbourhood

Stay off gardens, private property and construction zones, and keep it quiet near homes and residences.

FAQ

Common questions

Still wondering about something? Message us on Instagram and an exec will get back to you.

Do I need to be fast?

No. Some of the best players barely run at all. Hiding is a strategy, and patience wins more nights than speed.

What should I bring?

Shoes with grip, a charged phone with HUNTR installed, and some water. We handle the armbands and the boundary map.

Is it safe to play at night?

Every hunt has execs on the field, a clear boundary and a strict no-roads rule. If anyone gets hurt or lost, the game stops.

Can I come alone?

Most people do. Within a few minutes you'll be on a team, or being hunted by one.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Check our Instagram on the day. Any delays or cancellations are posted there first.
